Use This Tool to Build a Website Without Knowing a Bit of HTML

If you want The Dark Knight Curse build a website, you have quite a few options, most of which seem insurmountable. Learn HTML coding from scratch, pay a programmer, learn Dreamweaver, et.c All of it can sound a bit unappealing or overwhelming to the average internet user. However, one option shines above all the rest.

And it's 100% free.

It's called a "content management system" or CMS. It's a program that resides on the web host instead of your local computer, and allows you to "login" to your website to make changes and additions anytime from any computer that allows you Internet access.

They also usually have a very small learning "step." Nothing even comparable to the difficulty of Dreamweaver or HTML. Dreamweaver is a monster to learn, and ultimately is more of a tool for designing the actual look of a website as opposed to building and administering it. And knowing HTML code is certainly helpful in the long run,

So what is a CMS, then?

A CMS allows you to build a website through an administrative control panel, which you log in to with a username and password. Once inside, you can then add articles and content, change menus, and even the look of your website all with the click of a few buttons. And since there are many templates available for free, you will almost certainly be able to find something you like that only requires a little bit of tweaking.

Once you find a template, you can update your site with ease. Need to switch your navigation menu from right to left? No problem; click a button. Need to add a login form to allow users to register for a members only club? Click a button. Need to add a news feed? Click a button. Need a shopping cart to sell products? Download a free extension and click a button. And so on.

One of the most popular CMS programs in the world is called Wordpress, but it's aimed primarily at bloggers and is setup primarily for blogging purposes.

One of the best CMSs for those wishing to build a more traditional website is called Joomla. It's very similar to Wordpress in its simplicity and intuitiveness, but it does require at least one short learning session to understand how it works.

Joomla is definitely the best solution for those wishing to build a website that is easy to setup, easy to update, and extremely flexible. It's terrific for small business owners or just those wishing to have a web presence for any reason.
